Professor Eric Westhof visited FIO

On June 4, 2018, Professor Eric Westhof, academician of the French Academy of Sciences, and Shao Hui, president of Association of French and Chinese Experts (AEFC) visited FIO. Director Li Tiegang met and communicated with Professor Eric Westhof and his team. Professor Westhof then delivered an academic report entitled "Biomedicine: Targeting RNA with small molecules — RNA as a target: Nature does it so well" to our researchers and graduate students. The report introduced the latest progress of RNA structural biology and elaborated on the pharmacological mechanisms of non-coding RNA in antibiotics and other aspects. Professor Westhof also discussed related issues with our researchers. President Shao Hui introduced the situation of Chinese-French experts exchange and scientific cooperation.

Professor Westhof's visit has expanded our researchers' knowledge about the function of RNA and further deepened our understanding on cutting-edge technologies of molecular biology.

Professor Westhof is academician of the French Academy of Sciences, the German Academy of Sciences, and the European Academy of Sciences. He is engaged in the research of the structure, function and evolution of RNA and has published over 300 academic papers, including 14 papers on Nature, Science and Cell, and 10 papers on the supplements of Nature and the PNAS. He has made great achievements and enjoys a high reputation in nucleic acids research.
