Winners of Marine Scholarship of China visit FIO
On November 6, nearly 60 overseas students visited FIO. They are the winners of the Marine Scholarship of China from Indonesia, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan and Egypt. Zheng Wei, deputy director of the International Cooperation Division of FIO, received these students, briefed them on FIO's general conditions and progress in international cooperation, and exchanged views with them on issues concerning the training of overseas students and international cooperation.
The Marine Scholarship of China is a special government scholarship established by the State Oceanic Administration and the Ministry of Education for the purpose of providing financial support to outstanding students from the coastal countries or regions around the South China Sea, the Pacific, and the Indian Oceans, as well as from African developing countries to study in China for a master's or doctoral degree in oceanography or other related specialties, cultivating advanced professionals of the related fields for developing countries, enhancing international marine cooperation and exchange, and of promoting the harmonious ocean development in the region and around the world. Xiamen University, Zhejiang University, Ocean University of China, and Tongji University are the first four universities that offer the Marine Scholarship of China for the year 2013.
