At the beginning of the new year, at 9:00 a.m. on January 2, 2019, FIO held a brief and solemn unveiling ceremony for the new stone engraved with full name of FIO. The members of the leadership, academicians, middle management, and staff representatives of FIO witnessed this historic moment together. The ceremony was presided over by Qiao Fangli, secretary of FIO's CPC Committee.

In his speech at the ceremony, Li Tiegang, director of FIO, said that over the past 60 years, we have worked hard and forged ahead. The new era endows us with a new starting point for a new journey. In the future, FIO will carry out three strategic transfers around the new functions of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR). First, FIO will shift its strategic objectives to firmly standing on the frontier of disciplines and serve for the prosperity of China. Second, FIO will make an excellent intergenerational transfer. FIO would not have made such achievements without the successive efforts of generations of members of FIO. It is the accumulation of the past 60 years that leads to today's FIO. We must pass on and inherit such spirits, and create achievements continuously. Third, FIO will transfer the management mode to vigorously carry forward the spirit of teamwork, collectively overcome difficulties and achieve multi-disciplinary cross-integration. In the new year, we should work together to achieve the three transfers in short order and make FIO more influential and competitive with unremitting efforts.

Qiao Fangli stressed that in the new year and at a new starting point, the cadres and staff of FIO who are CPC members should be revivified with cohesion to embark on a new journey under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. We should adhere to the national marine development strategy to serve the core functions of the Ministry of Natural Resources, provide powerful scientific and technological support, and make greater achievements!
