Signing of the MOU on Cooperation in Marine Spatial Planning Opens a New Chapter of China-Panama Maritime Cooperation

At the invitation of Aladar Rodriguez Diaz, President of the International Maritime University of Panama, Li Tiegang, Director of FIO, recently led a delegation to visit the International Maritime University of Panama and the Ministry of Environment of Panama, and signed the MOU on Cooperation in Marine Spatial Planning between the FIO, MNR, China Ocean Development Foundation and the International Maritime University of Panama.
The MOU stipulated the content and form of trilateral cooperation in marine spatial planning and related fields. The signing of the MOU opened a new chapter of China-Panama maritime cooperation and actively promoted the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in marine planning and management.

After the signing ceremony, more than 30 experts and scholars from the FIO, the Ministry of Environment of Panama, the Authority of Aquatic Resource of Panama, the International Maritime University of Panama and some non-governmental organizations discussed the topics of marine spatial planning and marine ecological protection. 

During the visit to the Ministry of Environment of Panama, the FIO's five-member delegation had in-depth exchanges with Jose Julio Casas, Director of the Department of Ocean and Coastal Affairs, on the project demonstration area selection, results promotion and application, and establishment of a model of China-Panama cooperation. 

The delegation was accompanied by relevant responsible persons and experts of the International Cooperation Department, Research Center for Islands and Coastal Zone, and Research Center for Marine Ecology, FIO.
