Academician HUANG E and Researcher QIAO Fangli Selected for the 2023 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers
Elsevier, a world-renowned academic publication group, officially released the 2023 List of “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” on March 27, 2024. The list comprehensively reflects the current distribution of talents in the Chinese scientific research field, deeply analyzes the composition and academic influence of various institutions and universities in terms of their dominant disciplines, and highlights, in particular, the top talents in key technological research and key areas.
A total of 46 scholars in the field of marine science were selected into the list, among which 3 experts were from the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), including Dr. HUANG E, Member of the National Academy of Engineering, USA and Dr. QIAO Fangli, Member of Academia Europaea from the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO) of MNR. The two scholars have been listed as Highly Cited Researchers in the field of oceanography for four consecutive years since 2020, whose outstanding scientific and technological contributions and profound academic attainments have been highly recognized by international peers.
With promoting the high-quality development of marine scientific research as its mission, FIO has been committed to providing services to the management of natural resources and environment, national maritime security and marine economic development and served as a pillar of marine scientific research in the national scientific innovation system. In recent years, FIO has attached great importance to discipline construction and development, explored the trend of discipline development in depth, actively set up academic research platforms and continuously improved scientists’ theoretical research capacity and innovation and influence of academic papers. FIO has gained a series of high-level scientific research results by stimulating the endogenous impetus of scientific research, making positive contributions to accelerating the realization of sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening at higher levels.
The release of the list serves as not only a recognition to the hard work of Chinese scientific researchers, but also a vital reference of Chinese scientific research strength and talent distribution for domestic and foreign academia.
The 2023 List of “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” released by Elsevier, is based on the data from Scopus, a global authoritative citation and indexing database, and utilized a methodology developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, ensuring its authority and accuracy. A total of 5801 scholars from 496 universities, enterprises and research institutions were listed, covering 10 subject areas and 84 first-level disciplines defined by the Ministry of Education and displaying China’s outstanding achievements and profound foundation in multiple subject areas.
