FIO Delegation Visits Indonesia

From September 25 to 26, FIO delegation visited the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (hereinafter referred to as “BRIN”) and was invited to attend the 7th International Conference on Multidisciplinary Approaches for Sustainable Rural Development held by Jenderal Soedirman University (hereinafter referred to as “UNSOED”) and made keynote reports.

On September 25, WEI Zexun, Secretary of the CPC FIO Committee and Deputy Director General of FIO led a delegation to visit BRIN and had a meeting with Ms. Ramatun, Deputy for Research Facilitation and Innovation of BRIN, Dr. Intan, Director of the Deep Sea Research Center of BRIN, Ms. Maftuha of the Bureau for Legal and Cooperation of BRIN. The two sides reviewed the cooperation between FIO and the Research Organization for Earth Science and Maritime of BRIN (hereinafter referred to as “ROESM”) over the past years and exchanged ideas on recent works, such as the 8th China-Southeast Asian Countries Marine Cooperation Forum to be held in November in Jakarta and the unveiling of the Indonesia-China Center for Ocean and Climate.

After the meeting, Researcher LI Li, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of FIO and Dr. Intan, Director of the Deep Sea Research Center signed plans of operation of seven cooperative projects which cover multiple areas of marine science and technology including the establishment of marine forecast and early warning systems, marine geological disaster, smart ecological observation and biological gene mining.

On September 26, Researcher WEI Zexun was invited to deliver a keynote report entitled “Indonesian Seas during the Past Decades and New Scientific Understandings” in the 7th International Conference on Multidisciplinary Approaches for Sustainable Rural Development. The conference was held by UNSOED which attracted over a thousand experts and scholars from countries including China, Germany, Vietnam, Japan and South Africa. FIO delegation attended sub-sessions and delivered reports. In addition, Researcher WEI Zexun and Researcher LI Li held lectures for the undergraduates in UNSOED.

In 2023, FIO and ROESM signed a MOU and agreed to jointly operate the Indonesia-China Center on Ocean and Climate and conduct multidisciplinary cooperation. At the same year, FIO and UNSOED signed a MOU and implementation plans on joint cruises. During the visit, FIO delegation conducted community activities on microplastic pollution and mangrove restoration and conservation in Indonesian schools and communities with UNSOED.

In the future, FIO will continue to strengthen close collaborations with institutes and universities in Indonesia and make contributions to the joint establishment of the China-ASEAN blue partnership.
