CEO of NCW Leads a Delegation to FIO
From October 9 to 11, Dr. Mohammedali Qurban, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Center for Wildlife (NCW) of Saudi Arabia led a delegation to FIO.
The National Center for Wildlife of Saudi Arabia, affiliated to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia, is committed to the conservation of biodiversity in terrestrial and marine environments and the establishment of protected areas to promote the sustainable development of the ecological environment. During the visit, a one and half day scientific workshop was convened during which NCW delegation and experts from FIO had in-depth discussions on blue hole investigation, establishment of marine protected areas, smart ecological observation, marine spatial planning and microplastic pollution. During the workshop, Dr. Mohammedali Qurban expressed his hope to extend cooperation fields with FIO in the future. Later, NCW delegation visited the Research Vessel “Xiang Yang Hong 01” and expressed expectations to use FIO’s advanced research vessels to conduct research in the Red Sea. After the workshop, NCW delegation visited FIO’s Observation and Research Station of Seawater Intrusion and Soil Salinization.
In recent years, countries have attached greater importance to the protection of marine biodiversity and the construction of marine protected areas in order to realize the sustainable development of marine ecosystems. The ecological research team of FIO has actively made efforts to complete the first comprehensive biodiversity survey of the Red Sea Islands of Saudi Arabia in the past three months, obtaining scientific research data on island and land biodiversity, environmental DNA, etc. Its efforts have been appreciated by Saudi Arabia. In the future, FIO will continue to expand and deepen the cooperation in relevant fields with Saudi Arabia, contributing to the development of marine science and technology, and accelerating the construction of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road!
