Deputy Minister of Maldive and Other Foreign Guests Highly Appreciate Their Visit to Qingdao

Recently, the International Forum on Blue Disaster Prevention and Mitigation organized by FIO, DCC-OCC and Elsevier was successfully convened in Qingdao. More than 140 participants attended the grand event including experts, scholars and government officials from over 10 countries. After the forum, senior foreign officials paid a visit to FIO and had in-depth discussions with experts of FIO.

After the visit, FIO received letters of thanks from multiple government officials including the Deputy Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Energy of Maldives, the Director General of the Meteorological Department of Kenya and the Regional Director General of the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Madagascar. In these letters, they expressed congratulations on the successful convening of the forum and the visit to FIO and highly appreciated FIO’s achievements in marine science and technology and contributions to regional marine cooperation and the implementation of the UN Decade Initiative. They also expressed willingness to conduct practical cooperation with FIO in the future to jointly improve disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities of the Indian Ocean Rim countries. Mr. Ibrahim Mimrah, Deputy Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Energy of Maldives, pointed out in his letter that Maldives reached basic consensuses on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, joint designing on and application for projects during his visit and expressed hopes to strengthen cooperation in marine science and technology.
