Year-end Meeting on International Cooperation for 2024 Convened
On December 31, 2024, a year-end meeting on international cooperation for the year 2024 was convened by FIO with more than 40 participants including project managers and key members of 25 international cooperation projects undertaken by FIO and 11 international organizations present. LI Tiegang, Director General of FIO, WEI Zexun, Secretary of the CPC FIO Committee, and QIAO Fangli, Deputy Director General of FIO attended the meeting.
The year 2024 witnessed the steady progress of FIO in its international communication. Projects undertaken by FIO such as “building of China-ASEAN countries’ blue partnership” and “development of China-Indonesia Center for Ocean and Climate” achieved fruitful outcomes. Through close communication and exchange, FIO signed 12 cooperation agreements with research institutes and universities in Malaysia, Indonesia, Greece, Spain, Russia and Kenya. It successfully held the 8th China-Southeast Asian Countries Marine Cooperation Forum, the International Forum on Blue Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and other international conferences, and actively participated in the 2nd Ocean Decade Conference and successfully organized three side events. In terms of new international cooperation platforms, FIO co-established the Ocean Decade Cooperation Center of China and the POGO Western Pacific Regional Office with Qingdao and Qingdao West Coast New District in 2024. At the same time, FIO actively promoted marine cooperation with countries in the Indian Ocean Rim. Leaders of FIO led visits to key cooperation countries such as Maldives, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Madagascar and Djibouti to facilitate the scientific and technological aid projects.
Leaders of FIO listened to the presentations, gave opinions and suggestions, and evaluated and marked to supervise better the implementation of the projects and the work of the international cooperation agencies. At the end of the meeting, Director General LI Tiegang and Deputy Director General QIAO Fangli summarized the achievements of FIO’s international cooperation work in the past year respectively and put forward new requirements for the implementation of international cooperation projects and the work of international cooperation agencies in the coming year.
In the new year, FIO will continue to work with international partners to promote the blue partnership and make scientific and technological contributions to the building of a maritime community with a shared future.
