Celebration of 30th Anniversary of CKJORC Successfully Organized
From May 12 to 13, the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of the China-Korea Joint Ocean Research Center (CKJORC) and the 6th China-Korea Pan Yellow Sea Forum were successfully held in Qingdao. SUN Shuxian, Vice Minister of the Natural Resources and Administrator of the State Oceanic Administration and Song Myeong-dal, Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries of Korea attended the meeting and delivered speeches via video link.
Established at FIO in May 1995, CKJORC was a cooperation platform founded by the Ministry of Natural Resources of China and the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology. It aims at extending marine cooperation between China and Korea, improving capabilities of marine science and technology, protecting the marine environment and promoting the sustainable use of resources.
Vice Minister SUN Shuxian extended his congratulations on the 30th anniversary of CKJORC via video link. He emphasized that China and Korea are important marine countries and hoped that this event would further strengthen the collaboration between China and Korea in the marine field and facilitate more practical cooperation projects. Vice Minister Song Myeong-dal praised the research achievements made by CKJORC and expressed that the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will continue to support marine cooperation between the two countries.
In the event, LI Tiegang, Director General of FIO and Lee Hyi Seung, President of KIOST signed the Memorandum of Understanding. Both sides will continue to deepen cooperation in fields including marine observation and prediction, disaster prevention and mitigation, ecological protection and marine policies.
On May 13, the day after the ceremony, the 6th China-Korea Pan Yellow Sea Forum was convened. The China-Korea Pan Yellow Sea Forum was initiated in 2009. Themed by "the Health Ocean, the Active Ocean and the Communicative Ocean", the 6th Forum displayed 12 research outcomes achieved by China and Korea in fields such as marine environment and resource development. Over hundreds of representatives from Chinese and Korean government departments, research institutes and universities attended the forum.
The successful convening of these events concluded the cooperation experience of the past three decades and elevated the bilateral cooperation in marine science and technology to a higher level.
