FIO Delegation Attends the China-Indonesia Marine Science and Technology Exhibition and Conducts Cooperation

From May 24-27, WEI Zexun, Secretary of the CPC FIO Committee and Deputy Director General of FIO led the FIO delegation to Indonesia to attend the China-Indonesia Marine Science and Technology Exhibition and visit Indonesian marine research institutes.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia and the 20th anniversary of marine cooperation between the two countries. The Ministry of Natural Resources of China and Indonesian marine-related Ministries have jointly organized the the "China-Indonesian marine Cooperation Month" series of events. On May 24, the China-Indonesia Marine Science and Technology Exhibition and Economy and Trade Exhibition were held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Chinese Premier LI Qiang and Indonesian President Prabowo attended the exhibition. WEI Zexun reported the fruitful outcomes of China-Indonesia marine science and technology cooperation, introduced the exhibiting models including the GNSS buoy, the real-time communication moored buoy observation system and the underwater monitoring and recognition system for mammals. The two national leaders attached high attention to achievements of the China-Indonesia marine science and technology cooperation.

Additionally, the delegation visited the Research Organization for Earth Sciences and Maritime (ROESM), National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN), the Research Organization for Life Sciences and Environment, BRIN and the Agency for Marine and Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia (MMAF).

In ROESM, the two sides discussed the progress of 7 ongoing cooperation projects. Ocky, Director General of ROESM and Directors of Research Centers of ROESM discussed the operation of the Indonesia-China Center for Ocean and Climate (ICCOC) with the FIO delegation. After the meeting, Laksana Tri Handok, Chairman of BRIN met with the FIO delegation and emphasized that BRIN will continue to support the establishment of ICCOC and jointly organize the "China-Indonesia Marine Cooperation Month" series of events. The delegation also visited the Research Organization for Life Sciences and Environment and signed the Transfer Agreement on biological samples jointly collected by the end of 2024.

On May 27, the signing ceremony of MoU between FIO and the Agency for Marine and Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development was held in MMAF. Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of MMAF, FU Junsheng and YI Xianliang from the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia attended the ceremony. The two sides will conduct collaboration in ocean observation and capacity building.

This visit to Indonesia achieved fruitful results. In the future, FIO will continue to expand its cooperation network and fields and deepen exchanges with Indonesian partners in fields such as marine monitoring and early warning technology, ecological protection, deep-sea investigation and capacity building, contributing to building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future featuring regional and global influence.
