Delegation from ROESM-BRIN Visits FIO
On July 10th, a delegation led by Professor Ocky Karna Radjasa, Chairman of the Research Organization for Earth Sciences and Maritime (ROESM), National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), visited the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), Ministry of Natural Resources of China. WEI Zexun, Secretary of CPC FIO Committee and Deputy Director General, WANG Zongling, Deputy Director General, and representatives from relevant departments participated in the meeting.
Secretary WEI Zexun extended a warm welcome to Chairman Ocky and the accompanying scientists. He stated that both Indonesia and China are important maritime nations, and FIO has maintained close and productive exchanges and cooperation with Indonesian partners in the field of marine science. Recently, leaders from both countries jointly attended the China-Indonesia Marine Science and Technology Cooperation Achievement Exhibition, demonstrating high-level attention to the outcomes of this collaboration. Looking ahead, he expressed hope that both sides would use the Indonesia-China Center for Ocean and Climate (ICCOC) as a platform to continuously strengthen cooperation in areas such as marine environment monitoring, intelligent forecasting, and the cultivation of young talents.
Chairman Ocky spoke highly of the fruitful results achieved through the cooperation between FIO and BRIN and expressed strong confidence in future collaboration. He pointed out that in the face of global challenges such as climate change and sea-level rise, the two sides have deepened cooperation and worked together to address these issues around the UN Sustainable Development Goals, establishing a solid partnership. The China-Indonesia marine science and technology cooperation exemplifies the shared responsibility both sides undertake for sustainable marine development. He looks forward to continuing to deepen exchanges and cooperation under the framework of the ICCOC, achieving new results, and making greater contributions to regional and even global marine ecological protection.
Experts and department representatives from FIO provided detailed introductions on the construction progress of the ICCOC, as well as the latest research findings in areas such as ocean circulation and waves, deep-sea microbial investigation and development, and endangered species protection. Subsequently, both sides held in-depth discussions on these research fields and future cooperation, reaching a consensus on further deepening collaboration. Following the meeting, Chairman Ocky and his delegation visited the China Ocean Sample Repository.
In the future, FIO will continue to promote practical marine science and technology cooperation between the two sides, jointly building the China-Indonesia Ocean and Climate Center well, and contributing scientific and technological strength to building a maritime community with a shared future.
