Senior Vice President of Elsevier Visits FIO
On September 1st, a delegation from Elsevier, including Peter Harrison, Senior Vice President, SUN Haiyan, Publisher for Ocean Journals, and TIAN Shenpeng, Senior Manager of the Research Solutions Division, visited the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), Ministry of Natural Resources. They were welcomed by Director General LI Tiegang, Deputy Director General QIAO Fangli, and representatives from relevant departments.

During the meeting, Director General LI Tiegang extended a warm welcome to SVP Peter Harrison and his delegation. Deputy Director QIAO Fangli presented the significant achievements made by FIO in its participation in the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). Representatives from the DCC-OCC and the OSF programme office, both hosted by FIO, introduced their respective accomplishments in regional cooperation, public products sharing, and capacity building. SVP Peter Harrison fully acknowledged the fruitful cooperative outcomes achieved since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the DCC-OCC in July 2024 and expressed strong expectations for further deepening the collaboration in the future.
During the discussions, both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges regarding future cooperation plans and reached preliminary consensus. Under the framework of the UN Ocean Decade, the two parties will continue to expand their areas of collaboration, focusing on strengthening cooperation in jointly organizing oceanography journals, publishing special issues dedicated to the "Ocean Decade," and supporting the development of early-career marine researchers. They pledged to work together to contribute to the advancement of marine sustainable development goals. After the meeting, SVP Peter Harrison and his delegation visited the China Ocean Sample Repository.
