MOU Signed Between FIO and INRH
From October 16th to 18th, at the invitation of the National Institute of Fisheries Research (INRH) of Morocco, a delegation led by Director General LI Tiegang from FIO conducted a visit for exchange and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
INRH is a core scientific research institution in Morocco dedicated to the sustainable management and development of marine and fisheries resources, with strong capabilities in areas such as marine ecosystem assessment, fisheries resource monitoring, and the impact of climate change on the marine environment.
During the visit, witnessed by Zakia Driouich, Secretary-General of the Moroccan Ministry of Maritime Fisheries, Director General LI Tiegang and Director General Mohamed Najih of INRH signed the MoU. In the subsequent discussion session, our delegation engaged in in-depth exchanges with INRH leadership and department heads, reaching consensus on future cooperation. Moving forward, both sides will closely collaborate in areas such as establishing joint marine observation networks, conducting joint scientific research projects, and nurturing young talent.
On October 17th, the delegation was invited to participate in an international symposium hosted by INRH. During the event, WANG Shizhu, Executive Director of the UN Ocean Decade Ocean to Climate Seamless Forecasting System (OSF) Programme Office, delivered a presentation titled "OSF Public Products Facilitating Sustainable Fisheries Development." Currently, the ocean and climate public products developed under the OSF Program have become a key driver for international cooperation between FIO and global partners. Their application in fisheries resource assessment and sustainable management garnered significant attention from the attending experts.
The successful signing of this MoU has laid a solid foundation for practical cooperation between our institute and INRH, further strengthening and expanding our collaborative network in Africa and the Mediterranean region. In the future, both sides will seize this opportunity to jointly explore innovative pathways for addressing climate change, protecting marine ecosystems, and promoting the development of the blue economy, thereby contributing wisdom and strength to sustainable ocean governance at the regional and global levels.
