Scientific Delegation Conducts Exchange Visit to Togo
From October 20 to 22, a delegation led by Director General LI Tiegang visited Togo, engaging in in-depth discussions and exchanges with multiple ministries and the University of Lomé to advance the implementation of practical cooperation with various stakeholders.
During the visit, the delegation met with the High Presidential Council for the Sea, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Environment, and the University of Lomé. The delegation presented FIO’s latest research achievements in areas such as marine observation and forecasting, coastal erosion, and spatial planning, and held thorough discussions on how to apply these technological innovations to support Togo’s marine governance and sustainable development.
Mr. Bamouni Baba, Secretary-General of the Government of the Republic of Togo, spoke highly of the achievements made by FIO in the field of marine science and technology during the meeting. He expressed a strong willingness to collaborate with FIO to promote marine science, technology, and capacity-building efforts in Togo and across West Africa.
In September, FIO signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Lomé, and this visit represents another practical step in implementing this agreement. Through discussions, on-site visits, and other activities, the two sides reached multiple cooperative consensuses, effectively advancing the implementation of the memorandum. Moving forward, both parties will accelerate cooperation in areas such as the construction of marine observation systems, the application of disaster prevention and reduction toolkits, talent cultivation, and capacity-building. Together, they will work toward building a maritime community with a shared future and contribute wisdom and strength to global ocean governance.
