Lab of Marine Geology and Geophysics

The laboratory is mainly focused on researches of multi-scale marine geological process and its impact on environment and resources since it was established. The investigated areas of the Lab range from the estuaries, coasts, continental shelves, marginal seas of northwestern Pacific to the international sea-bed areas and polar seas. Research groups of the Lab commit to studies on sedimentology and paleoceanography of China offshore and marginal seas, geophysical characteristics and tectonic evolution of East Asian margin, polymetallic metallogenetic system and mineral resources assessment, land-sea interaction and geohazards, seabed detection technology, etc. International cooperation, joint investigation and publications have been successfully conducted between the Lab and institutions of USA, Russia, Germany, France, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, etc. The Lab now has 87 permanent research personnel, including 16 research fellows and 27 research associates. Among them, more than 85 % are younger than 45 years old. The Lab is also equipped with advanced investigation and analysis instruments and well-designed experimental platforms. The Lab serves as the mandatory management organization for China Ocean Sample Repository and Marine Geological Sample Repository. The Lab is the leading organization in set up the Laboratory of Marine Geology under the Qingdao National Laboratory of Marine Science and Technology.
